Virginia Tech shootings yet again open another dialog

Not the type of dialog that you expect me to say. Not the conversations that everyone are talking about. Example, Gun control, School Security issues, Bullying and Depression amongst students, etc. None of those really pertain to me so I'd like to take this in a different direction.

What I'm talking about is indirect double standards most American people set. Almost 200,000 Indonesians died from the Tsunamis a few years ago and it barley gets any coverage or support from the American people. Yes, it got support for a week or so, but NOWHERE near the support that people here gave attention to Hurricane Katrina. Yes, it was a tragic thing that happened. I don't deny that. People are still not over it and are playing victim. The main reason we pay so much attention to Katrina or Virgina Tech is because they happened on OUR soil and are relevant to a lot of us. Tsunamis that happened in Indonesia clearly aren't that important to a lot of Americans. Yes, we acknowledge that it happened and feel bad, but why don't we feel sympathetic and do something about ALL the world tragedies opposed to just the ones that happen in our own country? Example, Dar-Fur.

33 people died from the shootings at Virgina Tech and it is indeed tragic. Americans die in Iraq every day and we don't seem to make it a big deal. Sometimes they don't even get their name mentioned on the news. Let's just not stop there. What about the Iraqis fighting for their freedom that die everyday. Why isn't that a big story? I'm totally against the "War" and I have this view. I'm assuming its become routine now and reality that people die in "War" everyday. But people don't just die in war. Hundreds of thousands of people die EVERY day. People die in Africa, Dar fur, over sees, in the U.S., China, everywhere people die. I understand that you can't cover all these people and that shouldn't be done. But why are some massacres covered and some not? Is 33 people even a massacre? It's tragic certainly. It should be covered. But not to the point that it is being covered now. If you're going to cover a story where at least 20 people die in a certain place then you have to cover a majority of those stories. Drop the double standard or don't cover them at all. I think the way to go is to acknowledge and be aware of all the deaths and deaths from tragedies that occur, but move on afterwards with your life and realise it is a part of life. Grieve and get over it. Would all these people that died really want for you to be stuck in the pass of their death and make it so you'll never be the same? Of course not. You acknowledge the situation and move on. Unfortunately, this is hard for some people and not everyone thinks that way.

Another angle I'd like to tackle is what society has done for this tragedy to happen. The shooter, Cho Seung-Hui, obviously had a lot going on and his obvious way of getting things out was to kill people. Does that make the Kid "evil" as I've heard him been called? No. It means he was obvious disturbed and this was the only way the guy knew how to get his anger out. He's a victim in a sense of verbal abuse from peers and others and not feeling like he belonged. In that sense, I feel bad for the kid. I also feel bad for the 32 people he killed as well. Maybe if someone paid attention to Cho sooner then this whole ordeal would not have happened? Possibly. Either way, it happened. Instead of focusing on how this guy was a "Psycho killer", focus on how downing the verbal and psychological abuse teenagers and young adults do to each other and reach out more that way. In fairness, Cho should have gotten over the things that people were saying to him, move on with his life, and not left what others say affect him. Unfortunately, easier said then done for most people in our society. According to Zachary Hicks, maybe he should have egged a bunch of people's cars opposed to actually killing them. However, his apparent conduit was killing people. Not the greatest means of a conduit, but one nevertheless.

To wrap it up, what happened at Virginia Tech was obviously a tragic thing but tragic events happen in our world daily and either all of them should be brought to our attention or none of them. If your going to pay a lot of attention, a week now that this will drag on into months, then pay that much attention nationally to other tragic events that happen through out the world. Not just a day or two. All or nothing. Drop the double standards. Most people are only concerned about something if it effects them somehow. The world would probably be a lot better place if we were all concerned when something tragic happened. However, something that's tragic to one person may be completely irrelevant to the next. Again, everything always comes down to that magic word "relevance". I think the best thing we can do is just live our lives and when something rel event comes up, acknowledge it and move on. If something like racism is completely irrelevant to you, then oh well. Don't lose sleep over it. Live your life and move on. That's all you can do.

One more question. If 9/11 happened overseas would you care as much or even really give a shit?

Don Imus should NOT have been fired.

Well if you haven't heard about it by now, our country is yet again making things bigger than they should be. Last week on Don Imus' national syndicated simulcast and radio show, "Imus in the Morning", Imus said some insensitive comments that got our nation in an uproar.

Don Imus: "So, I watched the basketball game last night between -- a little bit of Rutgers and Tennessee, the women's final."

Sid Rosenburg: "Yeah, Tennessee won last night -- seventh championship for [Tennessee coach] Pat Summitt, I-Man. They beat Rutgers by 13 points."

Don Imus: "That's some rough girls from Rutgers. Man, they got tattoos and --

Bernard McGuirik: "Some hard-core hos."

Don Imus: "That's some nappy-headed hos there. I'm gonna tell you that now, man, that's some -- woo. And the girls from Tennessee, they all look cute, you know, so, like -- kinda like -- I don't know."

To hear the comments live check it out here:

What's my reaction and perspective on this you ask? The media has blown this WAYYYYY out of proportion. Should Don Imus have said what he said? Probably not. But should the media make this distraction a national issue and portray Imus as the scapegoat for Racism and Sexism? Absolutely not.

Don Imus is a Shock Jock. He is going to say things that people don't like and may be "politically incorrect". He's said these things for years and his show has never been pulled. Why now? The media as made this into an issue and it shouldn't be. It's not a racist issue. If you listen to the comments, Imus was comparing the Rutgers women to the Tennessee women. Saying that he wouldn't want to mess with the Rutger's women and that they were "nappy headed" opposed to the Tennessee women who were cute. Both teams were predominately black, so if Don Imus was racist why would he call one team nappy headed and the other team not? Since when is "Nappy headed" or "Ho" a racist terms towards blacks? If anything it's sexist. If you think Beyonce is attractive and gorgeous and say Oprah is fat and ugly, does that make you a racist? No. That's just your opinion. Also, Imus's program is a comedy news show. I can't speak for Imus, but appears he doesn't really feel this way about these women. He apologized and everything and it just should have ended there. If Imus is black and makes the same comments, then there is NOWHERE near an uproar. If he makes fun of the MEN college basketball team then it's not that big of a deal. It's only because it's innocent women who aren't really famous. Which I see as somewhat valid, but if you are in any part of the media or on TV, be prepared the get make fun of or joked about. 90 percent of these girls have never even heard of Imus and I'm pretty sure if they were told that these things were said and the media didn't make it an issue, then they would NOT have really cared. Even the Rutger's captain said when she initially heard the comments she laughed.

Since when has Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson been the poster boys and voice of opinion too what black people think? These guys are turning the Imus controversy in another measure to compare 2007 to the 1960s. While in 2007, black people have more serious problems then to what some radio host says. A lot of the hip hop culture is demeaning, anti education, violent, destructive, and pro drugs. That right there is a MUCH bigger issue today then racism is. It takes someone like Don Imus to open a dialog and say something that black people often say to themselves.(Ie Calling your women a "Ho" or "Bitch") Sharpton and Jackson are still trying to divide us. They are still making this a "Black" and "White" America. They are still focused on old problems and not really focusing at the ones at end. I'm not saying that the old ones don't exist anymore. They do. Just not to the magnitude that the new ones do and most of the old ones are non-existent for the most part. The more these guys focus on the negative and play the victim, the more likely it seems to happen. I suggest they focus more on trying to make a positive impact on society opposed to dividing the country in their own way. We are all people. Times have changed for the most part. Get over it, move on, and build now and for the future. Stop sticking in the past.

There isn't really a double standard in this society anymore if you think about it. It can be okay for a black guy to call his friend "Nigger" but not okay for a white guy. It can be okay for a Women to call her friend a "whore" but not for a guy. Why? Why do these words and actions have so much power in this society? Why does every little thing have to be taken literally or out of context? It's ridiculous. Some girls call themselves "Bitches and hos" or "Sluts and Whores" all the time but some will flip out if you call them that jokingly or take it literally. The more you say something, the chance for it to be said increases dramatically. If you don't want the word to be said then don't say it in the first place. If everyone had that mindset, then we wouldn't be having that much of a problem. That's not to realistic you may say. Then don't let the word have "power". It's just a word. If your going to say something negative then turn that word into a positive. It's all about context of what you say. ANY WORD can be degrading and demeaning under the right context or tone. Where did the word "Whore" or "Ho" come from? Where it comes from doesn't matter. All words come from people and it's the people who put meaning to the word. Therefore any word can be said in a positive or negative light. Let's replace the word "Whore" with "Vacuum". What if vacuum meant women who engages in sex for money and whore meant object to clean and pick up dust? It may to some people. It's all about relevance to the person. But even if it did, would that still make it "right" to say it? The problem is that most people assume there is a "right" way and a "wrong" way to go about something or to live your life and classify it into two category's. In my opinion, there isn't. It's all about opinion, perspective, and relevance something has to you in your life. The media and a lot of people in power likes to determine what is and what isn't. Now is that "right"? I guess that is for you to decide.

In conclusion, I think Imus had the right to joke around and say what he said. I don't think he should have because people other than is listeners didn't understand and took it the wrong way. He should have known better in that sense. A suspension was reasonable but a firing was absolutely ludicrous. The man genuinely apologized when he didn't have too. He's done a lot of charitable things for our society. Yes he's said some controversial things before, but nothing of this magnitude that this media circus has created. Well why not keep him on the air and use Imus as a conduit for forgiveness and change. He's paid his dues. Let him show us that we can learn from our mistakes and move on from a situation. Unfortunately, this can't be done on public airwaves on television no longer. Hopefully, we'll realise that we take things to literally, out of context, and blow things WAYYY out of proportion in our society. Number one example I believe is the Bible. As there are some good writings in it, in a whole it's taken literally to a tee too most people and things are taking COMPLETELY out of context. Look up the definition of "metaphor" people. I hope for the best and hope that people will concentrate on moving forward in society, opposed to dwelling on the past and current negative problems.

Mother Teresa said it best:

"I was once asked why I don't participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I'll be there."

Daylight Saving's Time? More like a big WASTE OF "TIME."

Two weeks ago on March 11th, Day Light's Savings time came 3 weeks early and a great many of people, who may or may not be retarded(I'm going with the Latter) were concerned.

Some people thought that a mini Y2K might happen. They were saying it could effect anything from stocks, to airline schedules, to even your personal computer and other electronic devices. Software created by this new law mandating the change passed in 2005 is set to automatically advance its timekeeping by one hour on the first Sunday of April, not the second Sunday in March. Congress decided that more early evening daylight would somehow translate into more energy saving.

Well is that so? That's pretty much the most ridiculous thing I've heard since I recently found out that you can now sit on the Easter Bunny's lap at the mall and tell him what you want for Easter. What the hell is that? Apparently a big "Fuck You" to Mr.Clause and another way for 40 year old sick fucks to get a hard on.(Which I don't endorse by any means)

Seriously though, how is this conserving energy? I guess the argument is that energy will be conserved by people having more light in the evenings, then this conservation will be exactly negated by people having to get up in the dark and consuming electricity while going about their daily morning rituals. From that standpoint, Daylight Savings time is completely useless in conserving energy.

Originally, Daylight Savings Time was used for farmers to make their lives easier since they have to wake up early every day. But many farmers oppose it. They just maximize their workday by commencing work when it’s light enough out and stopping when it gets dark, irrespective of what the clock hands say. Another point, do farmers even exist any more? Any hardcore farmers that is? I'm pretty sure that they make up less then a quarter of a percent of the population and that this old argument is pretty futile.

One more thing that most people don't mention about why Daylight Savings Time is useless. Time is a concept created by man. Day Light Savings Time and the concept of Time Zones were created by man. Clocks were created by men. Watches, sun dials, any measurement used to tell "Time", other than the son, was created by man. So how is pushing a man made concept, "Time", ahead or back an hour suppose to save energy? I don't see it. Time is a tool. A concept. Energy is neither. Time is used to help physics to make accurate predictions about our current world. Take that concept away and theses equations no longer work. So it exists from the standpoint that it is a concept and a tool of measurement in this world. It's just a man made invention to keep track of the Earth's NATURAL cycles.

So with all that being said, Daylight Savings Time is pretty much worthless since people adjust to this "Time" change and doesn't seem to me that it really conserves energy in the grand scheme of things. If I missed something, please let me know. This concept is just mind boggling to me.

With that note, I'll leave you with some funny videos via YouTube about Daylight Savings Time.

The irony of "Gayness" in the world of sports.

For those of you who don't follow sports, former British basketball player, John Amaechi, came out of the proverbial gay closet close to a month ago and their was a media uproar and is now starting to die down. The book is called "Man in the Middle" and describes John life as a Gay basketball player for 5 years and how he kept quiet about is sexuality all these years.

Now Amaechi was not a well known player, so the only reason this got the media attention that it did was because he's the first NBA player to come out of the closet. But a few weeks ago, former 5 time NBA allstar, Tim Hardaway, voiced his negative biggoted opinion on the whole situation via radio. Here's what Hardaway said:

The short version? Tim Hardaway quotes "I hate Gay people".

My reaction to all of this? To be honest, I don't really care. Do I agree with what Tim Hardaway said? Absolutely not. I could care less if someone is gay or someone is straight. If I have a gay teammate on my sport's team then I could care less about their orientation. I'm just concerned if they help us win ball games.

Mike Greenburg, from Espn's "Mike and Mike in the Mourning" program said it best:

"You may have any number of reactions to this, and you are 1000% entitled to whatever reaction that is. You are 1000% entitled to say, “I fully agree with Tim Hardaway. I fully agree with him.” There are a lot of people in this country that feel this way. Now, look, I have my feelings. I don’t know that my feelings are any more significant than your feelings in this. I grew up in Greenwich Village in New York City, where it was completely routine for men and women to be walking down the street holding hands with each other. I witnessed that from the time I was born. So, to me, this has never been an issue, and it’s never been something that surprised me. It is a part of life I have been completely aware of and completely comfortable with from, literally, my earliest cognizant memory. But not everyone is like that. People have religious beliefs; people have any number of beliefs. I don’t like them: I don’t like… I fervently disagree with them. I fervently disagree with Tim Hardaway. But you know what? So what? Why does he care? I don’t really care what he thinks. That’s what makes this so confusing, is that I think, at one time - and these may sound like contradictory statements to make, but - I think it’s very important Tim Hardaway may speak his mind if he wants to, and I also couldn’t care less what he thinks. I did not wake up yesterday thinking, “boy, I wonder what Tim Hardaway thinks about gay people”, in much the same way that I didn’t wake up two weeks ago thinking, “boy, I wonder who John Amaechi was spending the night with last night”. I wasn’t wondering that any more the day before his book was published than I was wondering about it the day after. But it’s a subject, it’s a dialog, it’s up. It has been brought up."

He also went on to say:

"While I do welcome all opinion, and I believe firmly that if you’re going to open a dialog - not hold a monologue, not hold forth by yourself and allow only your views to be spoken - if you’re going to engage in a dialog, you have to be prepared and you have to welcome the opinions being expressed even if you disagree with them and, maybe in some cases, disgusted by them. So, I have no problem with Tim Hardaway saying what he said if that’s the way he feels, and I, thus, will formulate my feelings about him accordingly. I will further say that I am disgusted by what he said, and I make no secret of that. If you choose to judge me any way you wish as a result of my saying that, you are welcome to do so and I have no choice but to live with it."

I completely agree with Mike. Everyone has an opinion. No matter how much you disagree with someone's point of view or perspective, some people are still going to think that way. That's whether you agree with it or not. I disagree completely with Hardaway's comments and can't believe that some people are so narrow minded and biggoted, but so what? Everyone grows up differently. People have a vast amount of different opinions. Maybe if some of these people grew up in different household's they would have a different opinion. Maybe not. At the end of the day, that's all it is, an opinion. In my opinion, there is no such thing as right and wrong. That's because everyone has a different perspective on what is "right" and what is "wrong". It's all based on perspective. Tim Hardaway had every right to speak his mind whether you agree with him or not. Even thought I disagree strongly, it needed to be said. To show that not everyone thinks the same in this society.

So does it matter what my opinion is or any one's for that matter? That's for you to judge. I don't care about Tim Hardaway's stance on homosexuals or give a shit about John Amaechi's sexual partners. I really could care less. However, I realize that civil rights of all kinds are still an issue today. They shouldn't be an issue in my opinion, but they are. That's just are current state of reality.

This brings me to the second portion of this article. Most men are so gay conscious in the world of sports, yet when a teammate pats a teammate on the ass after a good play or effort then no one flips out. When I played sports, that never happened to me. However, I was younger and if a couch slapped me on the ass then I'd be filing for sexual harassment in a heartbeat.

If I still played organized sports today and a teammate or couch smacks me on the ass cordially after a nice play or after I made a mistake, why don't you just say "Good job man. Way to go" or "Go get em' next time son." Something lame like that. The worst scenario I could see that if your in a game, you make a huge mistake, and your manage smacks you on the ass WITHOUT saying a word. I mean, is he doing that to encourage you to try again next time or is he just seizing an opportunity to be an old pervert. Eh, hard to say either way. I can say its ironic as hell to have all this "Ass patting" going on in this "Manly", "blue collar" sports society. So funny.

Anna Nicole who??

*Disclaimer* There are so many ways I can go with this issue. I'll try and focus on one and tie the others into it. I'll do my best. There is also content in this article that may be sensitive to some of you. You have been warned.

Let me first give you people a crash course on what's been happening the last 3 weeks.

For those of you who don't know or live on another planet, the "infamous" B-List "Celebrity" Anna Nicole Smith, passed away a few weeks ago. Ever since she died, there has been a media frenzy. The day she died and the day after were the two main days everyone "reflected" on her passing and tried to figure out who the hell Anna Nicole Smith was and to be frank, why she was so important for them to be talking about her over other issues that currently effect our every day lives.(You know, stuff more important than the economy, jobs, welfare, the "war", and even Dr. Pepper) But it didn't just stop there.

The last week or so, there has been a trial going on about who gets the deceased body of Anna Nicole. Add in the fact, that Anna Nicole had a baby 5 months ago and they still don't know who the biological father is. The trial for the body, was on for 4 days on EVERY NEWS CHANNEL. I couldn't help but watch. It gives me more comedy fodder for my own purposes. Also, if you've been watching, the judge running the "circus" its possibly one of the most hilarious guys ever.

Well that proceeding is now over and now they have to find out who the father of Smith's baby is. Also, Anna's attorney and "husband"/lawyer, Howard K. Stern, is still in an on going 10+ year court battle on who gets the remains and profits of Anna's late 90 year old husband, J. Howard Marshall.

Oh and by the way, Anna Nicole's son, Daniel, killed himself about 5 months ago so that's just another variable in this whole mess.

Now, what exactly am I trying to get at you ask? I'll tell you.

NONE OF THIS IS IMPORTANT!!! NONE OF IT SHOULD BE AN ISSUE!!!

That's basically what I am trying to say. People die every day. People die every minute, every second. Everyone dies. So why should someone like Anna Nicole Smith, be more important or magnified then everyone else's death? If she had a case, for instance, like Martin Luther King, then I'd at least understand why everyone is so interested. Now I believe what Dr.King did was important and should be noted for what he did for civil rights. However, he is still just one guy, who did a lot of things, a lot of good things, but just happened to die like everyone else has and will. That's just my opinion on death. But my point is that what is the media's and most people's concern about Anna Nicole Smith? Do they just want to make money? What the fuck did she do for this world? From what I got, she was a famous playboy model who somewhat resembled Marilyn Monroe, who married a 87 year old man for his money, who then got depressed and became fat as hell, who had her own show on E! that nobody watched, who lost all her fat from Trim Spa, and now is dead. Doesn't seem all that important or innovating to me.

Did she cure cancer? No. Did she spread peace through out the world? No. Was she a washed up model who got t-bagged by an 87 year old man for his money and had a lot of problems and is now dead? Perhaps. Either way, it shouldn't be that big of deal. Our society puts too much emphasis on death and it really pisses me off. A lot of people "fear" death or think it's the worst thing in the world. Well, regardless of what you believe, can't we all just live our lives to the fullest and when death happens it happens? It's just another part of life. It happens EVERY DAY. Get over it.

By the way, this next image might be controversial but I believe it's necessary.

No offense to Steve Irwin, but it's true. He's still dead. You people need to let stuff go. Reflect on the good times. Then move on. That's all you can do. Killing stingrays and leaving them on the beach in a vengeful fashion will not bring Steve back. I'm sorry, but it's true.

That's it for today folks. Next time will hopefully be on an issue way more entertaining then Anna Nicole Smith and Death. However, it needed to be said.

So, what are YOU doing for President's day?

I wasn't planning on writing today, but when yahoo.com alerted to me that it was "President's Day" this mourning, I just couldn't resist writing about another useless holiday.

I don't want to bore you people and get too much into why this is another inane holiday, you know, filled with all the typical commercialism, car sales, three day weekends, vacations, cheap memorabilia, decorations, etc. Since this is "President's Day", we can't leave out those OH so important documentaries on C-Span.

However, I will mention something I found hilarious when doing some research on this so-called holiday. On January 1st, 1971, The United States Government signed an act into law called "The Uniform Monday Holiday Act". The Act moved Memorial Day, Washington's Birthday, and Veterans Day from fixed dates to designated Mondays and created a new holiday, Columbus Day, which also falls on a Monday. The law was designed to give federal employees more three-day weekends.

They basically did this to create "President's Day" and so they wouldn't have to acknowledge Lincoln's birthday and have any more controversyas named by some, "Washington's Day".(Maybe something about being part of the confederacy and "having" slaves would have to do with this? Liberate the people my ass!) But, that's not what I get out of all this mumbo jumbo. The thing I find hilarious is that the government, basically made up holidays from general ideas JUST SO THEY COULD GET MORE THREE DAY WEEKENDS!!!!

Hmmm I can see how their thought process was unfolded:

*Guy in charge of making lame holidays*

"Hmmmm How about we make a day where we honor veterans and all they did for us and our country. It will be another commercialized holiday which we can make millions off of. Oh wait, I got it! We can call it.....wait for it.....Veteran's Day!"

*Intern to guy in charge of making lame holidays*

"That's genius guy! But, ummm, do we get an extra three day weekend?"

*Guy in charge of making lame holidays*

"Fuck yeah! Why the hell would we make a new holiday if we couldn't have more day weekends?"

Ok, so that's a little exaggerated and they did this all back in the 70s, where commercialism obviously isn't insane as it is today. But still, you know these fuckers were planning ahead. Memorial Day? Columbus day? If these regular days of the week are so important to get their own holiday, then shouldn't they be in our lives every day? Isn't that what history and education is for? I understand that you want to pass down and be able to keep track of history for generations and generations. But are we just going to create a special day whenever something "spectacular" or "Courageous" or "Tragic" happens? If that's the case, then we might as well expand our current calender because I'm sure their will be tons of these type of days happen in our society and world in the future. Are these "important" dates really going to be forgotten? Their just dates. A form of time, created by man. EVERY DAY should be important. Thus, EVERY DAY in a sense, is a HOLIDAY. That's how I see it anyhow.

So what am I doing for "President's Day" you ask? Well besides doing absolutely nothing and ranting and *gasp* "bitching" about these "holidays", I thought I'd share some funny "President's Day" videos I found. Enjoy.

If I were Abraham Lincoln

At first I thought this was going to be some stale comedic attempt of a video from some college drama student, but the ending to this turned out to be awesome!!

This gave me a laugh.

Later on this week, I'll be talking about the whole "Anna Nicole" situation and it's effect on society.(God, I can go SOOOOO many ways with this) Until then, Prodigy out? Ahh.....Still working on that one. Peace.

First post and reprint of "Why I hate Valentine's Day?"

Welcome everyone to "The Prodigy's Perspective". For those who don't know me yet, I'm a local 19 year old guy who has vast perspectives and views on pretty much everything and would love to share them with anyone else who cares to listen. I've actually had another blog on "blog.com" for a while, but that blog contained about 80% my life and 20% views on everything else. So this blog, will be used to give my opinion on various current day topics, to past ones, to philosophies and perspectives most people don't even go by. If you don't like what I say, then just hit your back button. This is the internet. I'm sure there's a place out there for everyone. Hopefully, this little side project of mine will be start of world domination.(*Insert random "Pinky and the Brain" quote here)

If for some reason you'd like to view my old blog about my life, check it out here: http://xtremecheats1369.blog.com/

For now, I'm going to repost something I posted the other day from my old blog. This one pertains to a particular topic and that's Valentines Day. Enjoy

Why I hate Valentine's Day.
For those who don't know me, I'm not the type of person who gets all Gah Gah over the holidays. Infact, to me, they're just a big waste of time for the MOST part. Today in particular, I will be talking about Valentine's day and its effect on society.(I did an "article" on this last year on Zach's site but can't find it) By the way, I realize this topic won't be popular with like 99% of the ladies. I'm aware and totally over it.

The main reason I hate Valentine's day is because Halmark, Hershey's, every flower shop in America, and the public, is basically making "love" a one day event. If you can't show your partner that you love them the other 364 days of the year and have to devote all that love that one day, then what is the point?! You got to be kidding me. If I were a guy, which contrary to popular belief I indeed am, then I would show girl "X" how I cared for her on some random ass day, one she wouldn't have no idea about, and set up suprises that way. Hell, if I ever cared for a girl that much, then shouldn't I show her love every day? Come on.

Why is it that guys spend more than girl's on Valentine's day? Shouldn't it be a double standard? Oh wait. I get it. They guy buys the girl chocolates and flowers and other things and the guy just gets laid. You kidding me? This is what love is?! And to do it on some socially constructed concept of a holiday is just a bit mind boggling to me.

Another thing I hate is all the people who feel they HAVE to have a girlfriend or boyfriend on Valentine's day. Now, I would say this is girls more so than guys and younger more so than older, but it still effects people of all ages. Society is basically telling you that you have to have someone on this holiday to celebrate it with. Again, another way to get money. But some people take this so literally were they'll find anyone and I mean anyone to be their "Valentine". It's so sad. It really is. You might as well get a male or female hooker, take them to dinner, say "I love" you, then get pity fucked for money and call them "Your Valentine".

Now, why is it that kid's are getting Valentines and handing them out? I thought this was supposed to be a romantic holiday. Are we trying to say that the love we give to our spouses or girlfriends/boyfriends is categorically different then the love we give to our kids our siblings? That's what it seems like to me. And all the more reason the holiday is a joke that everyone has basically brainwashed in since they were kids.(Just like millions of other things.) Little Susie has a crush on little Billy so she shows her "love" by giving him a cheap paper valentine made in china that says something corny like, "Be my valentine" or "It's not you, it's just me".(That's a break up one. OH MY GOD)

Cupid? Give me a break. Oh let me guess, The thought of a naked baby with a weapon shooting unsuspected victims on the corner and having them fall in love is "cute". Cute? More like sickening. Why don't we give the little sucker an AK while we're at it. We might as well just go ahead and "Rent a bride" because that's were the true love is at. LOTTO anyone??

Let me get this straight. I'm not one of those types of people who hates or dislikes Valentine's day just because I don't have a girlfriend or think love is just crazy or is just some dark person. Cause that's not it. If I had a girlfriend around this time, then I'd hope she'd at least understand my stance or even agree and believe that this "love" shouldn't be devoted towards this one commercialized day. I understand why a lot of people and couples like it, but I'm just saying that shouldn't it be "Valentine's Day" every day? Opposed to what the day is like to a lot of guys which is "Here baby, here's some candy and some flowers. Sorry for being an ass. Lets fuck." That's what I basically see out of this holiday. Next holiday to bag on, St. Patrick's day!!

In the words of Lady Sovereign, "Love me or hate me."No pun intended.(Sooo bad)
